Curtains Made Easy

The following simple instructions and diagrams cover everything from beds to blinds. As fabric measuring tapes can stretch, always use a steel rule.

How to Measure Curtains
Measuring for curtains us simple, with only two basic measurements required. Referring to figures 1, 2 and 3, just follow these simple steps:

1. For curtain length, measure from the where the top will start to where the bottom will finish. This measurement should include your chosen heading style.
2. For curtain width, measure the track on which the curtains will hang from end to end. It's advisable to add 10" to 12" of track on either side of the window, so that curtains can be pulled well back.
3. If you have overlapping tracks, measure both A and B and add these measurements together to give the total track size, including overlap. You also need to give C, the overlap size.

We recommend at least 1.5 times the overall track size (including overlaps and returns) for slot, tab, tie-tops and random gathered headings, and twice the overall size for goblet, pencil, inverted and pinch pleat headings. We're happy to make up to a greater fullness where possible on request.

How to Measure Valances

As with curtains, check against the diagrams and supply us with your measurements as follows:

1. Measure the width (A) and return (B), Add A and B to give the total track size. Please also state B, the return size.
2. State the maximum depth you'd like (A) and, for shaped valances, both A and B. This measurement should include your chosen heading style.

How to Measure Pelmets

1. Measure the topboard length (A) plus returns (B). Please state total length and size of returns (B).
2. State maximum depth (A) and minimum depth (B).

Please supply sectional measurements for all angled or square bay windows, with diagrams if possible.

How to Measure Swags & Tails

1. Measure the topboard width (A) and return (B). Add these together for the total size. Please note that we'll need all three measurements. For informal swags, you need only measure A, ie, between swag holders.
2. Indicate your preferred tail drop (A) and swag depth (B), or leave it up to us to make up in proportion to your curtain drop and the tail allowance will be made in proportion.

Please supply sectional measurements for angled or square bay windows, ideally illustrated with diagrams.

How to Measure Bedspreads
Simply supply us with the width (A), length (B), and depth (C) of your bed, remembering to measure over the bedclothes, excluding pillows.
How to Measure Blinds
First Decide whether you want your blinds to fit
inside or outside the window recess. If inside, state the width and drop of the window recess. If outside, your total width measurement should include your chosen overlap on each side of the window recess, plus your total drop measurement including allowance for your chosen overlap at the top and bottom of the recess. Then decide if the width measurement
is your fabric width or pin size (pin size being 1 1/4"/32mm wider than fabric, ie the most extreme blind width including mechanism.
